Meu fado with lyrics by Mariza. A very beautiful fado (a Portuguese gender of song).

I think all of you noticed that I din't translate the portuguese word FADO. There were many comments that claims this word has a literal translation in english, but that is not my opinion. I think fado doesn't mean Fate. Fado is a word that doesn't mean something in particular. Every person can make their interpretation of this words meaning. :) hope you enjoy my video and I hope that you can understand my reasons :P.

:D

Thanks for watching!!!

Thank you so very much for providing this beautiful song with English translation. I love Fado but do not understand Portuguese. I have several Fado CDs and I play them, sit quietly in the midst of the music which speaks to my spirit. Again, thank you.

I am trying to learn Portuguese Portuguese (not the Brazilian version). My problem is the pronunciation. Loving music - & Fado - I thought if could listen to the music whilst reading the libretto, it would help. This track seems to do that. Are there any others?

Here's my suggested translation." I bring fado in my voice,I sing the night, until day comes,From my people I sing lamentations*In my song, Mouraria** I miss myself, my lover, most beloved,I sing for a endless country,The sea, the earth, my fado,My fado, my fado, my fado, my fado,In me, I only lack myself, lady of my own life,of the dream I call mine, and suddenly find myself awakened***,I bring fado in my song,in my soul it is kept,it comes from inside of my emotion** **The search for my fadoMy fado, my fado, my fado, my fado... "(*Pranto is a Portuguese word and it could mean all of these: mourning, lamentation, cries, sorrow)(**A very old neighborhood in Lisbon, originally created by the Moors when they invaded Portugal in the 7th century. The name itself is a combination of words. Mouro (Moor) + Moradia (housing / neighborhood) )(***The literal translation for this word is "born", however, I think in this context she means she became aware of her situation. Similar to when you're day-dreaming and you suddenly realize you're in the middle of an important meeting.)(** ** I can't think of a right word to translate this part. In essence, she means that it comes from her very being, the depths of her soul.)

+Ricovali The translation may not be perfect but its close enough. I would even bet that this was actually translated by a person who knows both languages, and not through Google. Its very difficult to translate elaborate poems like this to other languages, and maintaining their original charm, structure and "feeling". The fact that this person was able to remain more or less close to the real deal is something to be praised. Portuguese sentences aren't always structured in the same way and order as English ones are, but if you think you can do any better, go ahead and give it a try.

I understand that Fado is a Portuguese gender of song. Mariza sings in this gender well. Love her.
