This is a rendition of the classic song "We Are Australian" by rock n' roll band Lo-Tel. This is a song worthy of praise in my opinion.

I also made up a little photo gallery of sorts to look at while listening. It ain't much, but the general idea is to just listen to the song anyway. Hope you enjoy it.

Unfortunately, the history of just about every country is full of the violent repression of native people, or people who came before we did. Our United States and Canada, for example, we slaughtered Native Americans, in Canada, I'm sure they did the same with their First Nations people who lived there before Canada was founded. Where's the honour in that? Were they *the* first people who inhabited our respective countries? Maybe, maybe not. Nevertheless, what can we do about something that happened 200, 300+ yrs ago? Nothing! The best we can do now, is to make sure the present generation of Aboriginal people are given the opportunities to live, survive, and to succeed. :)

@VariousFisticuffs Mate, what you just said was one of the most intelligent things I've ever read:"I don't know if I can be proud of something I did not choose. If people were born in Germany, would they then be proud Australians? Or in America, then proud Americans. I am not a monarchist, and nationalism smacks to me of the privilege of birthright, where someone is given status purely by virtue of their birth. I will love some things about this country and hate other things, however pride? Seems silly to me, for neither the good, nor the bad, am I responsible for."

This song, specifically this version right here, is Australia to me. This is how i feel, this is how Australia feels to me. It's got it's ups and downs, those moments that build you up, those that take you back a notch, but in the end, I wouldn't have it any other way, because it's the whole that makes it so amazing.

Mate if we let everyone in that wanted to it wouldn't mean as much to be an Aussie let anyone in that wants to be Australian not people that want to come here and change what it means to be an Aussie our culture is all we have as for the aborigines yea things aren't perfect there but time will fix that so just enjoy Aus for what it is and don't hate for what its not

To be honest, this was written I think for an ages-old Telstra commercial and as such, it'd be hard to bring this so far into the future. Yes, we are screwing up rather badly as of late (And our politicians are becoming more of a joke every passing day) but still, in general, we're pretty tolerant of everyone. Least that's what I believe. Granted, we've got a long way to go, but nobody said all our problems with Aborigines and the "boat people" would be solved overnight. One day at a time. =)

honestly i think this country is still too immature and frankly racist for songs like these, as awesome and idealistic as they are. even our national anthem says "for those who’ve come across the seas we’ve boundless plains to share" yet check out the ""boat people"" situation to see how wrong that line is. not to mention the disgusting treatment of indigenous people here. i wish our country was as laid-back and accepting as this song makes it sound.

Awesome song! I like this version the best. I'm not from Australia, I'm sorry to say, but I feel as though I at least live in Australia, and thus, feel some sense of pride for Australia.

only a few races that you can name, in other words, everyone who lives here and shows their love and respect to this land, should be called Australian and we should all be united :)
