This song is special, because it is a mainstream song, sung at big football games inside the stadium, as well as in concert halls, and was used to promote the bicentennial celebrations that indigenous Australians asked us all to boycott. Here it is being sung at an Australia Day celebration, the anniversary day of the landing of the first fleet and claiming of this land by Britain. A yearly celebration many of us refuse to celebrate. But listen to the lyric, and understand something special is behind how this song gained such a status. (nice playlist it is embedded in as well, a youtube selection around an Archie Roach song)

I absolutely love this song - the words, music and singers. There are (unfortunately) too many petitions to have it as our National Anthem, so as a result, none are getting the notice or results they probably need. If there was ONE petition, it might get somewhere. Having said that, I think there are too many verses for it to be a National Anthem, as the song needs at least the first 3 of the 5 verses to mean anything as an Anthem. If some clever person could combine the personalities from 3-4 verses, that would make more sense. It would then include Indigenous,"early settlement" people, "born here" Aussies and newly nationalized Aussies.
