What you say is exactly what I feel about this song. It is beyond sad in what it says about trying to pick yourself up after a relationship that has ended because the other person wants out. You try so hard to convince yourself that that person will no longer matter. Linda conveys that pain, that sadness, that fighting against futility and her musicians give it added depth..

Sorry, you're WRONG: Anka also wrote "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" a song written for Buddy Holly which Holly recorded just before he died in 1959. Anka stated shortly afterward: "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" has a tragic irony about it now, but at least it will help look after Buddy Holly's family.
