from the album Shooting At The Moon

I just came in off the street

Looking for somewhere to eat

I find a small cafe

I see a girl and then I say

`May I sit and stare at you for a while?

I`d like the company of your smile`

You don`t have to say a thing

You`re the song without the sing

The sunlight in your hair

You look so good just sitting there

`May I sit and stare at you for a while?

I`d like the company of your smile`

I heard this for the first time last night, 24 April, never even heard of him, what a cool voice, lovely and deep. Typical, I also only heard of Jeff Buckley after his death. Where were these guys at the time. I lived through the Seventies and all the crap, I feel sure that I would have remembered Kevin Ayers. Luckily, I wrote his name on a bit of paper, otherwise I would have forgotten to look him up today. What would we all do without YouTube? I must try and get hold of some of his music now.

Is Shooting At The Moon by the late, lamented Kevin Ayers the finest album ever made? I think it might be you know. Such a beautiful mix of the sweet & the strange. It's adorable & transporting. R.I.P. "you write the most peculiar kind of tunes"

I thought I was listening to a Velvet Underground track until the vocals came in.

ça sonne un peu comme le velvet undergound , en plus sympa, moins prétentieux... ici la soft machine a atteint sa légèreté de croisière...:))

How can I ever forget seeing Kevin in the Soft Machine opening for Hendrix at the Washington D.C. Hilton Ballroom in in 1968. Heavy stuff for a 14 year old.............your music will endure, Kevin!

This song could have been on The Magnetic Fields' "Holiday" album.

the voice is very similar to the voice of Nick Drake, I though it was a Drake's song

Yes, often times the best lyrics are those that are simple and true.
