Помимо этого, он обладал удивительным тонким вкусом, что нашло отражение в его студийной деятельности. Практически всю жизнь Эйерс посвятил погоне за музыкальной стабильностью. В 70-е он выпускал в среднем по одной пластинке в год. Его работы тщательно разбирались критиками в прессе; некоторые композиции постоянно транслировались радиостанциями. Периодически музыкант собирал новый состав и уезжал в долгосрочные турне… Затем, неожиданно поселялся на одном из островов Средиземного моря, где молча наблюдал за миром сквозь бокал красного вина. Воистину, его богами были Солнце, Море и Вино (за последовательность не ручаюсь), причём его совершенно не заботило отсутствие коммерческого успеха: «Каким-то образом мне удалось заработать денег, достаточных для того образа жизни, который я веду - как можно меньше работы и как можно больше удовольствий. Звёздный статус никогда не привлекал меня … положение крайне неестественное, неудобное, отнимающее нервы и силы…» Однажды Эйерса назвали «счастливым гедонистом» в одном из штатовских журналов. В той же статье утверждалось, что Кевин писал 3 типа песен: те, которые были навеяны лёгким алкогольным опьянением; написанные в средней степени опьянения; и в безумном состоянии полной отключки.
