I dunno When a musician first takes heroin all the blockages are gone and music becomes tangible, easy to feel. Of course this all goes away and you are barely making the gig cause you need the money. But the initial rush of creativity some get ( make your own list) is real. I am as much of a Keef fanatic as Johnny was but jeez, Mr Richards has left a lot of wreckage in his wake

I don't know; I feel it's (at least partially) as a result of the addiction that they develop this 'soul' that you speak of. I mean, in my experience, people who are fairly happy and live good lives don't tend to make good music. At least he made it as far as 38, and made some great music along the way.

@CupcakesPunkDiva , he was tottaly fuking murded, he was off heroin at the time and on methadone and when they found him dead he was all twisted in an unnatural position and all his methadone and guitars were gone, just cause of his rep the lazy cops just called it an O.D., there is a petition goin round on the net to get them to reopen the case. dont have the linkj but google
