Over the years, Australia has had quite a few small, specialist country music labels.
They have come and gone, and all have contributed greatly to the vast and varied catalogue of Australian country music.
Without them, we would be so much the poorer.
This label, Sunset, is a perfect example.
It was formed in Brisbane in the mid 60s by radio man Ray Rumble and artist Johnny Greenwood.
Ray worked at 4BC, and, from memory, the Sunset recordings were made in 4BC's large auditorium studio in their old complex, corner Wharf and Adelaide Streets.
Other Sunset artists included Johnny Grenwwood, Ellie Lavelle (whose original Sunset version of "How Far Is Heaven" is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay superior to her later EMI
re-recording), Paul Lester, Ken Hall and Leo Reynolds.
This 45 was released in 1965, cat. # S004.
The flipside was "Then And Only Then", which I've also uploaded to YouTube.
Both tracks came from America...this A. side having been a 1965 Top 50 hit for Webb Pierce.
In recent years, this track has actually been reissued on CD by Tamworth's "Australian Bush Balladeers Association".
This mob has actually been doing a wonderful job of reissuing some of Australia's rarest and long lost country tracks on CD.
This upload, however, is from the original 45.
