Which way are you going, which side will you be on

Will you stand and watch while, all the seeds of hate are sown

Will you stand with those who say, let his will be done

One hand on the bible

One hand on the gun

One hand on the bible

One hand on the gun

Which way are you looking, is it hard to see

Do you say whats wrong for him, is not wrong for me

You walk the streets, righteousness but you refuse to understand

You say you love the baby

Then you crucify the man

You say you love the baby

Then you crucify the man

Everyday, things are changing, words once honored turned to lies

People wondering, can you blame them

Its to far to run, and to late to hide

Now you turn your back on, all the things that you used to preach

Now its let him live in freedom, if he lives like me

Well you light has changed, confusion rains, what have you become

All your olive branches turned to spears

When your flowers turned to guns

Your olive branches turned to spears

When your flowers turned to guns

Oh man, I thought I'd heard all of Jim Croce's best songs but I came across this one for the first time today. What a great sound! Jim's statement on hypocrisy, I guess. I love it!

I've been listening to Croce since I was a baby. Still do and have most of his records. I wish I could have seen him in concert, now that would have been priceless.

@patbri47: You are misquoting the Bible: The actual Hebrew text states "You shall do no murder." It is not a blanket prohibition on the taking of human life, but a command that prohibits the taking of human life without cause. The Bible recognizes that taking a human life is justifiable and merited under certain conditions such as self-defense and as justice for certain crimes which are so heinous [murder, rape, kidnapping, for example] as to objectify and show a complete and utter disregard for humanity.

@Roy Jones, I think you have Jim Croce confused with Cat Stevens. Jim Croce died in a plane crash in 1973. Cat Stevens converted to Islam in December, 1977, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, sold off his guitar collection for Muslim charities, and quit making music.

Jim Croce was an important voice in the 1970's. He was taken from us much too soon.

I agree; this song is perhaps more true today than it was 40 years ago. I was a kid when Jim Croce died, but I was familiar his top 40 songs. Today was the first time I heard this song, and my opinion of Jim just went up.
