As a kid I always liked the drumming on this. You can hear echoes of it in Keith Moon especially at 1:15. They don't get any better than Hal Blaine, the pneumatic drill behind the Wall of Sound. Great tune all around, nice modulations.

This is a 1977 re-recording for K-Tel records by Dean Torrence & friends. This has no involvement from Jan Berry. You can't beat the original.

On this day in 1964 {August 22nd} Jan and Dean performed "Ride the Wild Surf" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... One month later on Septembe 19th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #16 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... The song was heard once in the 1964 movie of the same name, during the closing credits... Jan Berry passed away on March 26th, 2004 at the age of 62... R.I.P. Mr. Berry and Mr. Clark...

During their first visit to the US, Keith Moon of The Who was asked if there was anything he wanted to do while he was here. His answer - I want to meet the drummer who played on Jan and Dean's "Ride The Wild Surf." He did get to meet Hal Blaine, the drummer on this song.

My dad listened to the oldies when I was a kid and he had a cassette tape compilation of the best surfing songs and this was on it. Brings back great memories. Thank you.
