Gotta give credit to Mike Nesmith's beautiful production on this one (and the rest of the lp), as well as Red Rhodes steel guitar playing.

Such a heartfelt song...I always find it a little hard to listen to even though I love it. I guess we all have those times we feel like giving up. Beautiful song about a sad moment that hopefully passed away :) Lovely share, my Friend xo

@rakeuiff Aye, I knew that, well, not that he had a mustache. Hahaha.

@Saskatchewan00 Jackson was originally Nico's guitar player and had a mustache in those days, that's how she came upon the song! Eddie Black

How I LOVE this song. So moving. This version is the only I'd heard for years. It beautiful and JB's version is incredibly sad.

@cyberties I must say, I'm not overly familiar with Gregg Allman's version - I'm listening to it now. It sounds good so far! And let's not forget Nico's version - the picking pattern on that is fantastic.

@Saskatchewan00 Yes, this is a good effort. I think my second favorite version is Gregg Allman's from his Laid Back album. That version was one of the big reasons I began searching out Jackson Browne's albums. I noticed he wrote this one and some other tunes that I thought had evocative lyrics and melodies, like Doctor My Eyes.

@cyberties I agree. Still, this is a pretty good effort.

Jackson Browne's (the writer) version is the best.

This version is the business! I have it on a compilation Lp called "The One That Got Away" which I must have had since the mid 70s, ie songs that didn't do as well as they should have done by various artists.
