Even in its final stages, Moby Grape was one of the best bands in the biz. I recommend buying "The Very Best of Moby Grape" ASAP. It has all of their first album (which is full-on 1967 exuberance), most of 69 (which this song is on), and many other interesting performances. Even in the midst of their downfall, they made music that's so much more soulful and honest than just about anything I've heard from today. Whether exuberant or sullen, their songs go right through me.

One of the best songs about the ending of a relationship/marriage. The listener gets the perspective from the narrator as he slowly realizes his partner has been lying and cheating. After she's caught numerous times and makes false promises, he finally lets her go for good. Mr. Lewis achieves this without too long and detailed a narrative, as this is a rock/country/soul song and not a short story, sharing with us the slow churning of his heart breaking and trust broken over time. He just sounds sadly resigned, yet hopeful for his future, and the support from the band is right there with him and us. Brilliant!

gorgeous turn on this song...had the privelege of hearing Peter at a tiny coffeehouse in Los Angeles a few years ago, he brought an equally tiny bamnd with him, and just blew us all away. Massive talent, lovely guy...a sad history for the band, but what greatness!
