The Columbia Years 1943--1952: The Complete Recordings

Lyrics:

In this world of ordinary people

Extraordinary people

I'm glad there is you

In this world of over-rated pleasures

Of under-rated treasures

I'm so glad there is you

I live to love, I love to

live with you beside me

This role so new, I'll muddle

through with you to guide me

In this world where many, many play at love

And hardly any stay in love

I'm glad there is you

In this world where many, many play at love

And hardly any stay in love

I'm glad there is you

More than ever, I'm glad there is you

Ol' Blue Eyes is the greatest! But check out Sammy Davis Jr. on this song, it is one of the best versions around.

Just reading below, he recorded this Nov 1947 with Axel Stordahl, but released 5 years later, in '52 as a single. Composers: Jimmy Dorsey and Paul Madiera

Frank Sinatra recorded the song on November 9, 1947. The arranger was Axel Stordahl. The Frank Sinatra version, released as a Columbia Records single, 40229, in late 1952, appeared in the Cashbox magazine best-selling record charts in 1954, reaching no. 40 on May 22, 1954. So the single was a Top 40 hit on the Cashbox chart. The B side was "You Can Take My Word For It Baby".

Thanks for info (and for posting). Do you have the date of this recording/release, and who arranged the orchestral background? Thanks.

Jimmy Dorsey composed "I'm Glad There is You" with Paul Mertz in 1941 and released the song as a Decca B side with Bob Eberle on vocals. Jimmy Dorsey re-recorded the song in 1946 as an A side on Decca with Dee Parker on vocals. The song has become a jazz and pop standard. Everyone from Ella to Sarah to Rosemary to Smokey Robinson to The Temptations and Beyonce Knowles have recorded the song. Tony Bennett and Johnny Mathis have also recorded this Jimmy Dorsey classic.
