A H.K.

I wonder what Nick Drake thought about this. He must have heard it. 'Five Leaves Left' was recorded in 1969. This was really done in 1968?

These recordings were made to sell the DJM publishing material to other artists. This was how Elton made a living along with trying to develop his own stuff so not meant to be released and sounds like it was recorded along with lots of other songs over a period of a few hours.. still interesting enough.

This might not be the best cover ever made (!) but in fairness to Elton John, this sounds like a nod of appreciation to a great artist.

He doesn't generate anything near the emotional power that Drake had, and it's a mistake to try to kind of resolve the tension in places...but I certainly don't think it's awful. Does anyone know the right year? Could this have actually been recorded a year before Drake's own version on FLL?

First off - this a demo, not meant for public consumption . Second Elton J was a virtual unkown singing the songs of a total unknown. I think its interesting, and sounds not unlike Elton John's early stuff. No way is it ''unforgivably dreadful'.Everyone's looking at it from a 2013 perspective. Wrongly.

Awful it is. But Elton never knew internet and YT would be around 40 years later on to bring his worst up front. 40 years ago we were all making dreadful fools of ourselves on our way (some of still are).

Only a musical idiot would make a comment like that. This is a brilliant cover which far outshines the original!!!!!

YOUR!!!!!!!!! EXACTLY WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, QUOTE:: " Drake basically Sucked!!!!! Musical Loser, So you define music in the sense of success and fame means quality. Not selling records means loser and failure, Im my humble opinion that makes you the loser. Nick Drake died young and suffered manic depression, with all the COKE Elton shoved up his nose its a surprise he didn't suffer the same thing.

WELL, the amazing thing about music and art is freedom of expression and opinion, And mine is that Elton john is 2nd rate fake, soulless singer, Sorry. And I would leave him alone if he left a Nick Drake song alone. Im not comparing your right, No way to. Different league of expression and feeling. Sorry if my opinion upsets you, But when I heard this cover it summed up one the main problems in the music industry today.

I'm proud to admire a person whom you define "a musical looser". Nick Drake's music was beautiful beyond what words can express. I don't mean to insult Elton John, but just to say I don't agree with your comment on Nick Drake. He was wonderfully talented.
