My favorite version, from the Ken Burns Jazz documentary's accompanying CD. Cannot seem to find it posted anywhere online, so I figured I'd upload it. If anyone has any information on this recording, please comment. Thanks.

On this day ~ In 1927, Duke Ellington’s band began a four-year engagement at the famous Cotton Club in New York. Among the Ellington classics to emerge from this period were “Creole Love Call” and “Black and Tan Fantasy.”

Adelaide Hall is the one who originally improvised the wordless vocal which ended up on the classic recording of this tune.

Major. It plays around with major and minor thirds in true jazz fashion, but it's in the major key.

Wow, I love the Adelaide Hall version when she sings trumpet like and this one is great too.

Also on this record is Lawrence Brown (Tmb) who had recently joined Duke. I think the solo on this is by Juan Tizol who played valve trombone. It featured along with Mood Indigo and Hot & Bothered on a very early "long play" disc (Victor L-16006). On Feb 9th the band made L-16007 which featured thre more titles (East St. Loius Toodle-Oo/Lots O' Fingers/Black & Tan Fantasy). I assume these were 12inch 78s. Never come across one I must admit.

@packers56789 - Thanks for the information. I can see how the '27 version has greater historical importance and might be chosen first for a complilation, but this one gets me every time.
