CORE n'GRATO - by Carlo Buti

Catarì, Catarí...

pecché mm''e ddice sti pparole amare?!

Pecché mme parle e 'o core mme turmiente Catarí'?!

Nun te scurdá ca t'aggio dato 'o core, Catarí'...

Nun te scurdá...

Catarí...

Catarí, che vène a dicere

stu pparlá ca mme dá spáseme?

Tu nun ce pienze a stu dulore mio?!

Tu nun ce pienze, tu nun te ne cure...

Core, core 'ngrato...

T'hê pigliato 'a vita mia!

Tutto è passato...

e nun ce pienze cchiù.

***************************************************

Caterina, Caterina,

Why do you say these

terrible words to me

Why do you torment me so.

Caterina, I have given you my heart.

Do not forget.

Catarina,

Catarina,

What are you saying?

How can you say the words

that hurt me so?

No you don't care, It doesn't bother you

Heart, ungrateful heart,

you have taken my life

all is gone

and we are no more

Reply to Jean Mas. I note your personal remarks and also that you give no cogent reasons as to why you particularly prefer this voice over that over that of Caruso.

Poor basic technique,as shown by the wobble almost throughout. This should be rectified otherwise he may have no voice. There is no connection with the body. There is no passion in the voice. He needs a good voice coach, and also a few more years.

Reduxmisc,.......You are so on the money......I love Carlo Buti's softer, beautiful rendition of this classic.........but right after listening and loving it, I can listen to a rendition by Corelli with his pouring out mountains of passions and enjoying that equally.......I can always split the difference and listen to DeStefano.....they all bring something to the table and that something can be artisically different........thank God we had all of them.....

Sublime rendition, sublime voice!

Get outta here!

All I know is that I've never heard it done in a more "heart-rending" manner than in this recording. The passion of the others, including Pavarotti and Bocelli, is alright and powerful, but THIS recording actually tells the story that the words say. Bravo!!

Beautiful rendition. It is a shame the original recording was so ill served by the phony echo effects though. Still, a nice example of Buti's exquisite phrasing and "in the moment" singing. In many ways he was Italy's precursor to our own Frank Sinatra.

Erial80

Maybe the most congenial way to sing this phenomenal song. If you need more passion and soul there is always Franco Corelli,Giuseppe di Stefano,Mario del Monaco and more recently Francesco Valpa.
