Sadly I never heard this version of Shambala til a few years back.....different, but every bit as good as the three dog night version.....Of course I'm old enough to know that BW had a hit with "My Maria" long before Brooks&Dunn....:)

Chuck wrote great songs. Unfortunately, he didn't credit for this one. One of the great voices from Texas. He was my friend before he became famous......down at Bo's place on Oak Lawn. Hubby went to Adamson High with him. Will always miss him and his kindness.

+saintquinn007 Three Dog Night didn't write ANY of their hits. They were smart enough to use the songs of the best writers of the time for Liar, Out In The Country, Easy to Be Hard, Shambala, etc. Then, they'd get together and do some kind of worthless jam for the B side, and put everyone's name on as authors....made just as much in mechanical royalties as the A side!

I first heard Chuck sing when he was a 17 year old student at our old high school in Oak Cliff. I was floored by his talent having known him without ever hearing his musical talent. He sang the lead in the school musical. He stole the show! I told Michael Martin Murphey a couple of years ago that I loved his song, 'Texas Morning', but that B.W. made it his song! LOL!Both those guys, along with Ray Wylie Hubbard, all graduated from my high school, the oldest high school in Texas.

I grew up on the other side of downtown Dallas from Oak Cliff. But I always loved hanging out with the guys from Sunset High and Adamson. That was the 70's.I can only imagine what it must have been like for the Oak Cliff guys in the 60's.
