Something about the edge in his voice drives the lyrics in harder. It doesn't strive to sound beautiful or pretty, but it manages beauty by being real and natural. Something about Conor makes him sound like he's not trying and is just being natural, but another part seems to struggle to find and speak the words. I especially love how the music swells while he screams. It makes it seem so regular.

@amaralmfdl like i commented on another link not long ago, apparently (so i've read about him) conor had taken singing lessons in order to sing this way lol. imo i don't think the songs would have such an impact if he sang like peopel usually do in songs... like you said 'sing well and show emotion' i don't think the songs would have same feel... sound.. etc. if he hadn't done it this way-
