Blur "Charmless Man" guitar lesson. For this Riff of the Day, we use a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII and a Blackout Effectors Fix'd Fuzz Deluxe to recreate Graham Coxon's tasty guitar tones. Charmless Man is a testament to Blur's exceptional timing and knack for catchy riffs that are often harder than you think. The intro bounces between unison bends and a driving A string followed by a quick D string pulloff. Next, Coxon uses minor7 chords and a little pulloff lick which quickly jumps to two more stabs (unison bends) that lock tightly with the band. The verse has a folksy descending riff in A while the root walks down to F#. A fuzzy overdub attempts the same descending riff followed by a Hendrix style lick that shows Graham's vast musical taste. Enjoy your riff of the day guitar lesson!

Coxon's overdriven sound is so awesome! Wonder what settings they are using on the DLS...

How the hell can Coxon write riffs like this?

I guess the fact that he mentions the DLS first that means its the Dirty Little Secret running into the Fix'd Fuzz and not the other way around?

Nice lesson, cool riffs. This reminds me a little of some early Steely Dan, like Midnite Cruiser, which would also make for a very nice lesson.

I can't thank you guys enough for this, I listen to every one of these videos to pick up new stuff to learn, techniques, riffs and stuff..and then you go and put up a quite unpopular song by my all-time favourite band mostly known in the US for "Song 2". I'm struggling to play it like most of Coxons stuff and seeing a heads up to Graham in the beginning like that. Respect to you guys, fantastic work and you nail the tone and everything - every single time!

I've been watching quite a few of the demos and always find them fantastic. It just occurred to me that you must have a pedalboard, right? How's about a peek? I mean, you demo a million pedals - I wanna see what made it to your board please :)
