I asked my love to take a walk

Just a little ways with me

And as we walked and we would talk

All about our weddingday

Darling say that you'll be mine

In our home we'll happy be

Down beside where the waters flow

On the banks of the Ohio

I took her by her pretty white hand

I let her down that bank of sand

I pushed her in where she would drown

Lord, I saw her as she floated down

Darling say that you'll be mine

In our home we'll happy be

Down beside where the waters flow

On the banks of the Ohio

Returning home about twelve or one

Thinking "Lord, what a deed I've done?"

I killed the girl I love, you see

Because she would not marry me

Darling say that you'll be mine

In our home we'll happy be

Down beside where the waters flow

On the banks of the Ohio.

Certain MUSIC ~ of various styles ~ cuts right to the very heart of the human condition. Doc & Big Mon do that here of course. It would be a shallow person who was NOT deeply touched by this gloriously simple MB & its delivery. Pass that tissue please.

Great old murder ballad. This one and Pretty Polly are my favorites of the genre.

True. The old Celtic Murder Ballads from Ireland and Scotland could almost make Eminem and IceTlook tame by comparison.

This is the part about GETTING OLD that I HATE ! Losing talent such as Doc ! He will continue to captivate for years to come through His Videos.............! Not a drop of EGO, just pure talent . RIP -Doc. David G. Holland , Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yes, The Kossoy Sisters and The Carter Family did alot of these type songs, and they learned them from the mountain folk in and around Appalacia and in the Shenandoah... Many of these are no different than the traditional Stagolee or Jesse James type song, which can be country, blues, or folk. But the songs are about true life.

Georgia Rae Family Band loves to sing about sinners, and MRDER BALLADS . This one's great. Maybe we will rock this song out on our third CD. "Songs about Murder, as Gospel as we get" :) Good times.

I first heard this song sung by the Louvin Brothers. Doc and Monroe sing it a litle differently. Great "golden age" stuff. I love it.
