The Bach-Gounod version of the Ave Maria was requested by my special friend, 19rebel57. The pictures were provided by her, as well.
Some may not be aware that the "Ave Maria" is the Catholic Prayer, "Hail Mary," sung in Latin. The first part of the prayer comes from the The New Testament. The latter part which is included in this Bach-Gounod version of the "Ave Maria" are the Catholic Church's addition to the biblical words.
In the Schubert version of the Ave Maria, you hear the words, as they are in The New Testament, alone, and not the entire Catholic prayer.
Both versions are in Latin because the official language of the Catholic Church was Latin for many centuries. Both are also sung by Johnny Mathis in his album, "Goodnight, Dear Lord" and are simply beautiful. "Good Night, Dear Lord" is still for sale but it's quite expensive these days because it is a collector's item.
Latin words:
Ave Maria
Gratia plena
Dominus tecum
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus fructus ventris
Tui, Jesus
Sancta Maria
Mater Dei
Ora pro nobis peccatoribus
Nunc et in hora mortis nostrae
Amen.
English Translation:
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and
at the hour of our death.
Amen.
