For me, djent is a guitar style and a genre, because there are bands like Meshuggah and this band who focus pretty much entirely on filthy low poly rhythmic groovy riffs, but bands like Periphery do a lot more with their riffs. So yeah, djent is a valid style guys whether you like it or not.

It started off as a specific tone but now there are a bunch of bands doing it so it can be used to describe a genre. I use it as both. I still don't completely accept it as a genre.
