"The Wanderer" performed by U2 at a tribute to Johnny Cash - It should be noted that this song was originally recorded by Johnny Cash along with U2 - This song was written by Bono.

I like this version much better than the original... I love The Edge's background vocals in this one.

Now if only the album version had Edge's backing vocals on it... I love the song as sung by Johnny Cash (and Bono!), but that little vocal part would make it even better.

- brilliant tribute to Cash.Lyrics: I went out walkin'Through streets paved with goldLifted some stones saw the skin and bonesOf a city without a soulI went out walkin' under an atomic skyWhere the ground won't turn and the rain it burnsLike the tears when I said goodbyeYeah I went with nothin'Nothin' but the thought of youI went wanderingI went drifting through the capitals of tinWhere men can't walk or freely talkAnd sons turn their fathers inI stopped outside a church houseWhere the citizens like to sitThey say, "They want the kingdom"But they don't want God in itI went out ridin' down that old eight laneI passed by a thousand signsLookin' for my own nameI went with nothin'But the thought you'd be there tooLookin' for youI went out there in search of experienceTo taste and to touch and to feel as muchAs a man can before he repentsI went out searchingLookin' for one good manA spirit who would not bend or breakWho would sit at his father's right handI went out walkin' with a Bible and a gunThe word of God lay heavy on my heartI was sure I was the oneNow Jesus, don't you wait upJesus, I'll be home soonYeah I went out for the papers, told her, I'd be back by noonYeah I left with nothin'But the thought you'd be there tooLookin' for youYeah I left with nothin'Nothin' but the thought of youI went wanderin'Read more: U2 - The Wanderer Lyrics | MetroLyrics

Just listened to version with Johnny Cash. It's shocking how much better Johnny's voice sounds and I'm a U2 fan. No disrespect to Bono - just reminded what an incredible talent the man was. Nobody had a voice like that. RIP.
