Gotta love and appreciate Edge's musicianship; he is the ultimate multi tasking master. I bet if it was physically possible to play the recorded backing string sounds during the middle 8, he would play those too! And as for Bono's vocals, well at least we still have early live U2 footage on YouTube.

i think this song was dropped simply because it is hard to sing. Bono changes the lyrics and drops lines because I think he now struggles with the high bits - as is evident.
