The Smithereens, one of the most underrated bands in rock & roll, perform here on the old Dennis Miller talk show from 1991 promoting their album "Blow Up". The Smithereens are Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak, Mike Mesaros & Dennis Diken.

..and THAT is how vocal harmonies are done (especially the album version).

i figured it ,,the opening chords are XTC sense working over time" and the rest of it is part beatles day tripper,(especially the vocal harmony) and "part "groovy kind of love" sped up !

Underrated for sure.. They had 60's type talent, Tight like Booker T & the MG's, great songs, Dinizio's pitch perfect vocals... Sadly, not so appreciated in the era's of posing and hyped controversy being valued more than musicality.....

The studio version has a couple members of the Cowsills on backup vocals...

How these guys never achieved superstardom is beyond me. Maybe it was b/c they couldn't fit in during the glam/hairspray era of the mid-late 80s and they weren't grungy looking or sounding enough when that genre took over from the late 80s to early 90s? In any event, they're my favorite band of all time - I own everything they ever did. I only wish I had joined their fan club during the 80s. Woulda had a lot more cool stuff.
