I have never heard a band do such a great a cover version of an important song such as this, from this particular era; I still have bitter feelings toward what's-her-name for wrecking this particular piece of iconic, near-sacred bit of songwriting (back in the 80's); these guys got it right; the only possible complaint by the "diehard" fans is the simple fact that they tuned their guitars down. These guys did their best to capture the spirit and feel of the song, and they achieved full marks. Like, wow!

My next #coversunday song is from the Smithereens. It is their remake of the Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There.

Check out their version of the Outsiders "Time Won't Let Me". Another great 60's cover!

THey are out there killing it this summer - saw a great show in Albany the other night. They did a bunch of songs from "Tommy' and "Behind Blue Eyes" , but also "Blood and Roses" :Behind the Wall of Sleep" etc.

Not bad, not bad at all. I heard Pat DeNizio discussing the album they put out called "Meet the Smithereens"... "B" sides of Beatles classics. I've always been a fan of this band so I was anxious to see if they could pull this off. Of course, guitarist Jim Babjak uses Rickenbackers, so this much was assured. Nice to hear such a good Beatles song done well by a band that admires them as much as I do. Well done.
