Demons Dance Alone, 2002

Their eyes are big and sweet

When they eat

I don't know why

Why can't I

be a cow

Anyhow

Cows never cry

My heart was broken, broken

Cows are so open, open

Bro-ken, Bro-ken, Bro-ken

It was bro-ken

Open, Open, Open

Cows are open

Every heart that's been broken

Is a heart with a hole

Every heart that's still open

Is the seed of a soul

Make me moo, Make me moo

Make me moo, Make me moo

Who can truly make me moo?

Make me moo, Make me moo

Make me moo, Make me moo

Make me moo, Make me moo

Hava a heart and make me moo

Make me moo, Make me moo

I can honestly say that of all the songs I've heard about wanting to be a cow, this is by far the best one.

For anyone wondering about the connection between *Demons Dance Alone* and 9/11, it has little to do with the lyrics or music directly. There is almost nothing in it that could even symbolically reference 9/11. However, the tragedy did inspire the sensitive and emotional tone of the album. It's arguably the most emotional, and at times even poignant, work they've created (without delving into creepiness). If you've never heard the album, give a listen to "Life Would Be Wonderful", "The Weatherman","Honey Bear" , or "My Brother Paul", for expressions of very basic loneliness and desperation. Homer and company have recorded few other songs, much less an entire album that expresses feelings that are so easy for the listener to relate to.

Only the residents can turn 9/11 into cheesy 80's synthpop awesomeness.

This to me is one of the resident's best songs. On the surface it seems like a silly little song about cows but in reality it is a beautiful, powerful moving songs about loss and unhappiness. I take it as being about a girl who's mother dies in 9/11 (staying with the concept of the album) and wishes to be a cow so she doesnt have to cope with the grief of losing a loved one. 'cows never cry' Im probably wrong. Its beautiful whatever though

I can understand why you might think that, but otherkin is wanting to be another species for its own sake instead of wanting to be, say, a cow because you think they don't experience the same kind of heartbreak as you. The song, mentioning how sweet and simple cows are, contrasts with having a broken heart, which wouldn't happen if you were a cow. "Make me moo" doesn't mean "literally make me a cow"; it means "make me able to recover from my heartbreak".

Reviewers said Molly sang in a "creepy little girl" voice on this song. It's not creepy at all. It's beautiful.
