Charted at #9 on Billboard Hot 100 in March 1960. The relaxing sound of a more innocent time. Featuring the Anita Kerr singers. Another version of this song by Billy Walker charted at #83 around the same time. Charting remakes: #25 Hot 100 for Pete Drake in 1964 (#5 Adult Contemporary) and #79 Hot 100 in 1969 for Mercy (#24 AC).

This was the only charting single for "The Little Dippers".

Written by Buddy Killen.

B-side is "Two By Four".

has anybody an idea by whom this was covered over the years? i'm talking about a specific version where the bass has a much higher pitch than the original and the singing voice is distorted/filtered (a bit in a daft punk kind of way).you can listen to it on soundloud, its the intro track of the "IF YOU EVER FEEL DOWN, PUT THIS MIX ON!" mix by axel bomansoo any suggestions?

I can't get enough of this song and of course it is yoked with a great time of my life. Was that really Floyd Cramer on the Piano?

The first time I heard this song was here on YouTube, and it was Pete Drake's version, w/ an early version of the talkbox

I am a youngster that never had even heard of this song. I actually found it due to an album cover that had the text changed hilariously. Then Someone posted the original cover with original text with a link to this song. So mellow and relaxing. What a ride a single image on the internet can take you on. I love this song!!!!

A quiet little song from early 1960 hits the supplemental supplemental chart at # 3217. This was the kind of song that went around and around in your head, so much so that it began to sound better in your head than when you actually heard it on the radio. I doubt if it reached the Top Ten on WMGM 1050 AM and "Your Hits of the Week" with Peter Tripp but it was certainly very close. The group is one that might have been named by Carl Sagan. They were called "The Little Dippers" and their song is "Forever".

This was our song 55 years ago. It still brings tears to my eyes as I remember how young we were and how many memories we have shared all of those years.

THIS is the song to listen to when riding Tennessee's Interstate 40 between Nashville and Knoxville, with all windows rolled down, on a hot summer night!

The picture is of the group that toured as The Little Dippers (Delores Dinning, Emily Gilmore, Darrell McCall and Hurschel Wiggintin) after the song became a hit. The actual recording was by the Anita Kerr Singers under another name.

Anita and her crew certainly were very good...I remember this.and how she had to change the name to the" Little Dippers" or the record people thought it would'nt chart. She did this a few times (with other names). If I had a penny for each time I would hear her do backup for a myriad of artists ,back in the 50's 60's and 70's. She indeed, was very talented, and could sing, produce, or just about anything, and it would be great. She was RCAs Golden Girl" for years..and has a "bevy" of LPs out there, that I played on MOR/easy listening formats. I always liked "The Anita Kerr Singers"..and You could pick them out of a crowd. So Talented!! Thank You for this post. Glad to see You out here, and Have a Great New Year!!
