Selections:

1) Forever by the Little Dippers. 1960 #9.

2) Guitar Country - flip of 3. with Chet Atkins.

3) Waiting For the Evening Train - 1963 RCA single.

Anita Kerr and her Singers were used as backup on the Decca label from 1951 to 1960. From 1960 to 1966 it was tha RCA label and the heyday of the Nashville Sound, of which they were an integral part. Here they numbered four and were named The Anita Kerr Quartet. Later they moved to other labels like Dot.

In 1960 the quartet recorded some singles on the University label, using the name The Little Dippers for contract reasons. They had a hit with a vocal of "Forever". But the label apparently used a different quartet for touring shows and for the record cover.

And apparently before they finished on Decca they rerecorded Forever there for an album under their own name. If so, that would be the LP "For You, For Me, Forevermore". I'm not aware of any second single by them of that song.

Pete Drake later made an instrumental hit of Forever, probably using the good old AK Quartet as backup there too.

That's clear isn't it.

More than entertainment, sometimes we need to listen to "Waitin' for the Evening Train" just for reflection. The Anita Kerr Singers were amazing role models as well as music artists--nothing at all like the money-worshipping, vice-laden entertainers of today.

"Forever"-this is incredible, what a song, what an arrangement, what a perfomance, what voices, especially that of Anita Kerr. I was hearing this in the '60s and was always a big Anita Kerr fan.

Anita Kerr was the best in these style, her harmony was unique, I have found several C.D.s and others on vynil wich I have renewed thru computarized software, but the one called "Velvet Voices", I haven't found, that one was awsome.

FOREVER was performed by The Little Dippers, in fact the Anita Kerr Singers. Anita Kerr was just coming to real prominence in the late '50's as a leader of her own group, arranger and producer with RCA records in Nashville. She and her group were the background on all RCA records produced in Nashville backing people like Eddie Arnold, Elvis Presley, Brenda Lee, Skeeter Davis, Don Gibson, George Hamilton IV, Bobby Bare and others. She was the most talented person in popular music.

I have the vinyl album with this song on it...music used to sooth the soul and you could understand the words. I will go to my grave loving "elevator music".

@BadfingerFan Anita Kerr wasn't just a person. She was a manager of a large group and of music repertoire. Don't expect her to act flashy.

The highest ideals of yesterday were perfectly captured in The Anita Kerr Singers' recordings. This is real music for real people, for a real world. Anita seems a bit shy. The group doesn't flirt big smiles. They dress conservatively. The quartet doesn't to rely on sex and controversary as so many of today's artists do. Instead, the Anita Kerr Singers rely on talent--Something they have no shortage of.

I heard she did arranging but I'm at a loss as to which. I don't think for Jim Reeves. She came to RCA in 1960.

Anita Kerr also did arranging. You can't beat Jim Reeves' recording of Roomful Of Roses, and now I suspect who arranged it. Also what about Patsy Cline's classic arrangements?
