jjmalone says:"These guys helped being back authentic music to pop America."That would be true except that their music was anything but authentic, being arranged for commercial success, and to accommodate the lineup of three voices, two guitars, one tenor guitar, and one upright bass (played by the usually uncredited "Buck" Wheat); and their style was a reaction to - and against - "pop" music, adopting a faux-folk style which, at the time, passed for folk. Don't misunderstand me - I liked these guys for the first 3 years of their career (until Dave Guard left); they were fantastic in person - a real high-energy show. But then I heard some authentic folk music, and the Trio was rather quickly replaced by Leadbelly, Odetta, John Hammond (Sr.), Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, and - most of all, the hugely talented - and huge - Dave Van Ronk.In later years, I discovered that Guard's leaving the Trio was the best thing that could have happened - not because of any flaw in Guard, but because it gave a spot to his replacement, John Stewart. Fifty years later, Stewart is the only one I listen to - and listen to often. With over 50 solo albums to his credit, he left a lot to listen to when he passed away in January 2008.All in all, I'd have to thank the Trio for 3 years of letting me think I was hip - right through high school - and for giving John Stewart (NOT Jon!) his start.

On this interesting thread of At My Window and Raspberries/Strawberries... can you elaborate? Aside from Brian speaking in french where's the copped melody show up in the BB song?

Beach Boy Al Jardine re-arranged this song for his "At My WIndow" on the Beach Boys classic Sunflower album. The Beach Boys - At My Window

How beautiful. Haven't listened to a Kingston Trio track for 50 years. What a mistake. Saved now by a TV ad here in Belgium (for sugar), playing this number. I have a KT LP in a packing case at the back of the garage. Time to bring it once more into the light.Fortunately, having lived here for some while, I might be able to manage the French.

My father made a $100 bet with we 5 kids if any of us could learn the entire song, French included. 30 yrs. later, he still has the money in his pocket. Great song though. Thank you.
