One of my favourite songs by the great society

I looked out my window,

The cloud,

Was grimly forming,

Waiting for the Rain I saw,

The one Dark cloud forming,

The Soldiers, Paid no heed,

I could hear their hollow laughter,

Down the hill in pairs and Threes

The Red Cross Girls Came After.

Gypsies, drunk and roaring

With their Ribbon Sabres flying,

In its Tangled Jungle mess,

A bat was softly crying

The beggars came to find,

That there was nobody buying.

I looked out my window,

The cloud, Was grimly forming,

Waiting for the rain I saw-ahh! The Dark Cloud Forming,

The Soldiers paid no Heed,

I-could-hear-Their-Hollow-Laughter,

And waiting for The Rain,

I Saw The Gypsies Marching After.

Written By Peter Van Gelder.

'wearing a comb like an ax in your head' likely means keeping your comb in your hair so it is up on the edge of the comb.

For all of Gracie's Dissing that these guys were amateurs and not up to it... If my studio was that thick with smoke and colourful... and my head was 10 feet tall.... I'd be damn proud of the sound they were putting out... Maybe no Jorma and Jack here but the Guitar and Bass Sounds are Raw and very distinctive... TGS were an excellent band imo... SHould have had a longer run - hey, but that's the 60's and look what didn't happen to The Grape. Love ya Gracie!

I just read this trippy book and the author referenced this and a couple of other Great Society songs. It was called The Cosmic Purple and it was written by a J. Sutton I think. I bought it off amazon. It was a weird but good book.

I love this song. Grace Slick cannot be topped ever. She's so distinguishable and such a leader in music.

This and Somebody To Love were probably written around the same time.
