Gogie Grant had the big #1 hit of this song in 1956. Many other singers recorded it. But the 2d biggest recording of this song was by

Tex Ritter Whose us recording went to #28 and in the UK it was much better reaching #8.

I've listened to every version of this song ever recorded this evening. The best is the Patsy Cline version, followed closely by Gogi Grant.

As to the war of The Wayward Winds, check out Eddy Arnold's. He replaces "wander" with "wonder". I was raised on Gogi's but haven't looked back since finding Eddy's..

Gogi's was the 1st and the best... Tex does a nice job... but Frankie Laine's version was #2

Great video: well done! But why oh why did you have to misspell the name of the immortal TEX RITTER as "Tex Rutter" [sic] in your opening frame?

@Moodiesfanalways No question, it's Gogi's version, but the Tex Ritter version is great. Check out Patsy Cline's rendition....

@Moodiesfanalways This I think was Tex's best recording but I think Gogie's is still better.

@Northshoreman1 Let me tell you this is coming from the worlds greatest Frankie Laine fan, Gogi's 1956 version of the "Wayward Wind" was by far the best and Tex's came right after. Frankie's 1968 recording was way behind, he could have done better, but I guess he wanted it to sound different. If Frankie had put his heart into it like he did to his 1955 "Cool Water" the other two would never been heard of. But he didn't and that's history.

This is so great to see Tex so well received on YouTube, and deservedly so; he does represent Americana in so many ways. And so many of us are grateful we came along at a time when he showed us a path worthy of following Thanks so much for posting

@ManagerGuy1 I know, I know I caught it myself after I posted it. The only way to correct it now would be to pull the clip and start over, but I think most people come to hear the song and not how good a speller I am which I'm not as I've found several mistakes in the 400 plus clips I've put on YT. Several people have toldl me not to change anything as they have put many of these songs on their favorite list and that would mess their list up if I pulled the clips.

FYI; I spotted a typo. You spelled Tex's name wrong in the title here. He spells RITTER not RUTTER.
