My Father was C&W through his entire being, my parents married in 1940 and he joined the U.S. Army ~~ yes, WWII, my folks went through much pain and aggravation, and as, their eldest child, so, did I and my little brother and sister. We all did the best we could and I offer you this as a tribute to my Father, who I believe is still strumming his guitar in :

Sometimes the tears come when I hear this song. Sometimes I fight back tears as I sing it. Sometimes people in the audience shed tears as I sing it.

The world of Tex Ritter is where a lot of us came from. By the grace of God we pray that that is where we will return someday.

In 1964 I was a disc jockey at KRSY Radio which at the time was in Roswell, NM (now moved to another city). Tex Ritter did a custom version of Hillbilly Heaven for our station where in the part where he names those expected in the 'next, say, hundred years' he names the DJ's, including me, Don Smith. I did not get a copy of that recording and I've been searching for it since with no luck. The person who leads the Tex Ritter museum in Corsicana, TX won't look for it and will not let me do the work of looking for it. It's not certain the museum has it but it stores much of Tex Ritter's recordings. Somewhere, that recording exists.

Tex Ritter was only 56 years old when he recorded Hillbilly Heaven, one of his most popular cowboy songs from the 1960's.

I love the old country, more than I do the new country it is what I grew up on, The younger generation does not know what good music is. I remember a lot of the stars from back then. Tex Ritter, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, Webb Pierce. Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, and the one that just recenty passed, Cal Smith. just naming a few I could go on and on

I'm so glad I found this song on here, I haven't heard it since I was little. Tex's music has always been a part of my life, I'm proud to say that I'm related to this legend who isn't known by many in my generation.♥

The first artist I ever saw perform live... I sat on my dad's shoulders when I was 3 years old. It was at The Band Box in Pomona Ca. 1955. Dad ran The Retail Clerks Union and was in charge of entertainment. Tex was a hero ever since.

I think this is the clip from the movie about Hank Williams starring Warren Beatty. I've been wanting to see that old movie again for a long time. My Paw Paw would have loved this as he played and sang a lot of Tex's old songs and was from the same part of Texas as Tex Ritter came from. When those guys are gone (and there are few left) we will have lost a great legacy that gave this country so much.
