obviously brian must have wrote most of the lyrics to this song otherwise why would they have changed them after he was ousted and renamed the song from that girl to stay with me.That way his name would not be credited on a song he never sung on in the final take for the album for a band that he no longer was in.

If you listen you can hear the disco influences on sweet. Like most 70s bands they tried to ride the tide over the disco waves and crashed into the rocks. Only a few bands like ELO were able to make the transition smoothly, but sweet was always a real rocker band, so to go disco, ie steve and that insane perm he kept for decades, was beyond insanity for sweet fans. I actually hated cut above the rest pure crapola, and level headed was not much better, off the record was okay, but this is where the disco became infused. They tried, but after give us a wink, it was endsville baby endsville.

This song became why dont u stay with me sung by steve when brian had left. This version was a hell of a lot better, since by this time, sweet had become a disco leaderless mess. After Give us a Wink, sweet began its decent into nastyville...yes love is like oxygen was a hit, but really was it that good...their last three albums were just terrible and embarrasing for a sweet fan.....

@Umary00. I agree and 'liked' this comment. I think the harmonies - especially around 3:25 ish are a lot like the sixties' sounds.

Yes, that's right regarding the released version on Cut Above The Rest. But what Dynamo is saying is that this version ie That Girl didn't come out until years later. It was around 1990 and I think the album was called Platinum Rare.

This song is so much better than "Stay With Me" on Cut Above The Rest. It has better lyrics and better vocal melodies from Brian than what Steve Priest came up with. It was mistake getting rid of Brian. They should have taken some time off after recording this album, put him in rehab, then come back big a couple of years later.

it wasnt years later,more like months...they just wiped his vocals and re-aranged the lyrics.In fact they wiped his vocals off most of the album acording to steve priests book.
