i was first introduced to this tune by the wailin jennys, which is superb, yet this version makes me weep....how true to the sea chanty, which this is...yet still slightly psychedelic.........wonderful!!!!!!

After years and years of being away from this tune I'm so glad I found it again! It was my all time favorite Steeleye Span ditty! Takes me back to my long haired hippie days! Haha!

Reminds me of my childhood, where there was a mix this Tull, Cat Stevens and the Incredible string band playing some where in the house nearly all day.

Saw Steeleye last week in Northampton and they performed this. Along with " Lovely on the water " two of my absolute favourites. Their music allows one to time travel.

Thompson's Henry the Human Fly (his first solo) album was at one point the worst selling album in Warner Bros history but it has some wonderful stuff on it. The Poor Ditching Boy, the New St. George are classics. Also, do not die before listening to Hokey Pokey from 1974. Another "also" - beg, borrow or steal if necessary to catch a Thompson solo performance. You will be dutifully impressed. No more about Thompson. Promise!

It WAS discussion about the EC song "Withered and died"... written by Thompson.

I was vaguely aware of Richard Thompson... I did go down the Fairport Convention line a bit. He cropped up recently in relation to something... I can't recall what... maybe an Elvis Costello song?

Thanks for uploading this great song. Have you by any chance delved into much by Richard Thompson, particularly his early stuff from the 70's and 80's? Absolutely brilliant.

Steeleye Span inspired me look at the original English folk music. (a bit) At a time before the internet.... I did order a couple of selections vinyl albums.. shipped from UK to NZ

One of my all time favourite British folk songs. I can't imagine anyone singing this better than Maddy Prior. This is the band that led me to Richard Thompson, Pentangle and all the other treasures of British folk rock. Such a shame non of my friends never caught the bug like I did, back in the late 70's.

Thanks Rumpoleful, this is one of my all time favorite Steeleye Span songs. I have most all of their albums on Vinyl, as well as the 2 Summer Solstice albums by Tim Heart and Maddy Prior. Am just now collecting videos of their songs.
