Was curious if there was a reasoning behind the Yngwie pattern starting with an upstroke. This is the 2nd video (another guy) I happen to notice with the same upstroke start. Every position shift sounds sloppy (your cleaner), not saying ya don't sound great. Was wondering if you use that lick to go into another that sets it up.

love your videos rob..hey quick question. do you feel practicing with the metronome is really important for developing speed and synchronization with economy picking? I understand it will develop timing and is an essential practice tool; however recently ive found that practicing some of your synchronization techniques and other licks at "room temperature" for long durations of time has helped me figure out some areas that had been troubling me for a while..any thoughts?

the only thing i don't get is why start on an upstroke? that makes the sequence end on a downstroke which makes it much harder to switch strings if you want to use it in a solo??

Been playing for 9 years now.. but looking at these videos, this was the kind of instructor I needed starting out. Somebody who could teach me not only what I was doing musically but the correct way to play them, and also acknowledging that there are multiple ways of doing said thing. I felt like every instructor I had covered the first aspect but never really dove into the other two. I feel like I could be much better than I am now if I learned all of these things from the beginning and not several years down the road (i'd say it took me two years for me to feel content with my playing) and with that I say thank you, Mr. Chapman.

I'ts good if you wanna be a blues player, But with most shred/speed players, it's better to not anchor your fingers to the guitar, The closer all your digits/fingers are together gives the picking hand a tighter sense of gravity and control where everything is drawn in at it's center gravity point. Making movement more fluent, and narrowing the effort you put into it. especially with your fretting hand, you will learn that keeping your fingers the closest to the F' board determines speed. =]

I'm kind of with pcnation11 in that I anchor the pinky & ring digits on the face...but I find it extremely helpful for accuracies sake, and they're only a flick away when needed for muting, tapping, harmonics, multi-picking, etc. Please...tell us it's really not that bad?!?! MJ
