Hi Rob,this Video really helps me a lot. Thanks!!!!!I´ve been practicing picking the wrong way for 4 years now and was always frustrated that i´m so slow. It´s really no rocket science but finally i found your video explaining it the right way. Im practicing the way you explained it for two days now wich is nothing compared to the last years and i´m already faster than with my old "technique". And changing something fundamental like picking should be a pain in the ass...but it really felt quite good from the start.Looking forward to practicing this a lot more...Cheers

"so relaxing and economy of movement are the keys to playing fast, precise, flowing, shred, evil, terror, death lick guitar" That's the quote of the century for guitar playing. I tip my hat to the Chopper.

Have you ever done martial arts? I only ask this because i teach Karate and it's the same concept you were talking about with relaxation that i struggle to get people to understand that you can't move quickly if you are tense. As soon as you learn to relax everything else flows more naturally...loving your videos by the way. I've been playing for 21 years now and I found that I spent so many years obsessing about having James Hetfields right hand mixed with Dimebag Darrells left hand that i forgot about just playing the guitar and letting it just flow.

MAB, Rusty Cooley, Troy Stetina, all agree that its actually best to completely lock the finger and the thumb, because otherwise you can only go as fast as that motion will allow you too, which is often slower than the capabilities of the wrist/elbow.

Dude I just wanna say that your video re the best tutorial or clinic style videos I've ever seen. Im28 and have been playing guitar for over a decade now and I feel like I should be a much better player than I am. I've never er ha Leon's cause I could never afford them and I ply by ey and by swing because I've never been able to read music and have never learned by just Reding. I'm learning a lot from your videos and they're thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you for taking the time and energy to make these. I really appreciate it. If you're ever in Williamsburg, Virginia I'd gladly buy you a beer or 2.

do you really use your thumb and index finger to pick at the same time you pick with your wrist? I've tried that but I don't know how that works altogether.

But if my grip is loose the pick keeps slipping and I drop the pick. So how do you have a loose grip without dropping the pick?

Hi i have been playing for 3 years and i am having an alternate picking problem for about 6 months now. I use .73 dunlop picks and 10-46 strings and some prety expensive jackson guitars. whenever i alternate pick at 110 bpm and above my picking becomes very fought against like i cant get through the strings properly with my pick which has stopped me from learning new solos and increasing my speed PLEASE HELP.

I prefer Robs video lessons rather than Bea's. He is a great guitar player no doubt, but Rob gets to the point. He explains lessons better making it easier to comprehend. Bea I find that he tends to ramble far too much through lets say his intermediate video for reference. Half the video is spent rambling with very little focus around the exercise itself. Towards the end of the video of his intermediate course we finally engage ourselves into the lesson which is dishearting. For twenty minutes I would expect more for what your paying, but that what Rob is here for and its free!
