Guitarist Ray Russell has a nicer lead tone than Holdsworth, but some part of my heart wishes Holdsworth was on this session. Kill'n stuff either way.

Does anyone know where these videos originate? Is there a DVD with these selections that I can buy?

My favourite of all time together with Dave Weckl, and just for the groove Chad Smith.

Not only is Simon the greatest drummer of our time, but he is also the most amazing Fussion Jazz/Rock composer of our time!!!! His melodies and grooves are just as rich as his playing. The music is "stand alone" incredable, can't say it sounds like some other artist

@ Eric Miller: not even close, there all the greates of our time, but don't even come close to Simon Phillips, to say " they would put the whooping on his Ass" not sure what you are smoking... but I'd say it's affecting your judgement in a prolific negative way.

best drummer ever!!!!!! simon is the perfect combination of a musician and a technician. No one has ever managed to actually play MUSIC with so much technique. All the Jordisons and Portnoys of this planet should watch this carefully...

I mean relative at a certain point.

Better is a relative term and it's bullshit anyway. If you're having fun making music you don't need to be better than anyone else.

This is just a guess as to why four morons don't like it. As cool as the playing is on all the musicians' part, it does have a slightly dated sound. I don't know what they were expecting, but maybe that's it. As for me, I love that groove. It makes me wonder why I never tried something like that...a halftime feel with the accent on the & of 4. Maybe I have tried it by accident, but I never wrote anything using it.

Nows theirs 4 lol. I think they really do like him. ppl just do it to be fags. Either that or they idolize some other technical drummer that which is bad to do cause it cuts you off to other inspirations. Or its possible they're just assholes that like some really mainstream shit....

Him, and two others really inspired me to play ambidextrous.
