I'm not sure how my 17/8 comment got on this page!!!??

The 17/8 video I was referring to is the one entitled Simon Phillips plays 33/8.

Mr. Gul

No, 17/8 isn't possible because this is an up-tempo 8th note shuffle and you can't have an odd time signature based on 8th note shuffle (because the 8th note lengths are uneven) This is in 6/4 and can you hear the 4th note snare accents on beat 2, 4 and 6 very clearly. The syncopation must have thrown you off or something.

Strange... I'm counting 17/8 and it seems to be coming our correct.

I can not figure out any way on gods green earth how to write this on Sibelius for a Drum line setting. I can figure out the bass drums.. but not the " duh digitty dot" for snares or tenors. any help would be appreciated it possible.

Yeah Man, great guitar work by Ray Russell. Simon, doing it up. The reason why kats like Simon, Billy Cobham, play double Bass drums, is. Because, they get that extra Sycopation flow in accents. ESP doing 16th note triplets, 32nd notes, etc. Just gives them that extra punch in overall Sycopation ideals. You digggeee. I am a Bassist from Detroit MI. And love that double Bass drum. yeah man.

I believe all these guys are amazing... Neil is amazing also, I don't find Neil to be as loose or jazzy which you said above. He is almost a metal drummer in my opinion. He could probably play with Metallica or Slayer and would fit in well hahahaha

Also May I add Dennis Chambers does not read music. Vinnie and Billy Cobham do read but if they have a song memorized its still improv. Mostly everything these guys (and almost all musicians with a Jazz background/understanding) do are rehearsed to a form but it's still improvised as far as what grooves and ideas/riffs to put down.

Wow really? Much more "Jazzy" "Neil plays amazing hard rock drums?" Dude these guys I mentioned aren't soft players....they're just as dynamic (if not more) as Neil and. Billy Played with Mahavishnu orchestra (a Huge Jazz/Fusion group).....he plays HARD so does Dennis Chambers and Vinnie Colaiuta played with people like Frank Zappa and is one of the most recorded drummers plus the gigs these guys have landed shows their versatility. Take Neil out of Rush and he's stiff as a board.

Those guys are good, but much more jazzy... Neil plays amazing hard rock drums and composes all his beats. This guy appears to be very similar in crafting his playing. If he's improvising this stuff, then that would totally blow me away.
