So as you probably noticed in a earlier post I received a package from Seymour Duncan containing a lot of pickups to test. So of course that gave me an idea of comparing them all in a metal test! I'm using the Ola 5 second squirt Axe Fx 2 preset for all the clips just changing the pickup (and the guitar). You can download the Axe Fx 2 preset :

Keeping what amounts to nearly the same tone in each clip sort of negates the value of a multi pickup test, no? Also, the tone itself sounds awfully dry and scratchy. Is this what passes for a heavy guitar tone these days?

I'm honestly feeling the Full Shred Sh-10. As a lead guitarist with an often progressive approach, what best suits me is a versatile pickup with enough punch for various metal genres but not too much aggression to where more melodically played parts and higher notes lose their clarity or become too noisy with distortion. Thus, the Full Shred.

I would either go with the Invaders or the full shred. This are the only two pickups I would go with before I would resort to active pickups and I don't want to do that for two reasons. Active pickups end up costing you more money in the long run because you have to replace the battery, and the process to change the whole wiring harness in your guitar in my opinion is not worth it, one should not automatically say, "Oh active pickups sound cool so lets completely change the settings on my guitar just to have two pickups that cost too much money put into my guitar. Don't get me wrong I like the sound of active pickups, but you should really look at other options for your guitar if your guitar already has a passive pickup wiring harness in it, it'll save you time and money.
