Chicago based singer Chaka Khan joined local funk band "Ask Rufus" in 1972 when she replaced her close friend Paulette McWilliams in the band. They dropped "Ask" after recording their second album and became simply "Rufus".
They released "At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up) in 1977". It made the #1 spot on the Hot Soul singles chart and a creditable #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the same year.

I think the video threw me off. The song seems to stand alone and isn't really a symbol of the subjects in the video at least not directly. I don't remember it a disco type song but I may have very well been played at a few.10 years ago

I enjoyed the video along with the song!! It actually fits the time in which the song was created and captures moments of the day. I was born in 1969 so i was too young to experience them personally but the music was a constant in my house so in that way i feel i'm connected!!10 years ago
