In 1987, Richard Carpenter was interviewed by Gary Collins on Gary's show, "Hour Magazine," to publicize the release of Richard's solo album "Time."

I created this video under another account that I used to have, "Perfect Day."

Seriously...Karen and Agnes meddled in Richard's love life that contributed to his problems with medications. They are not to blame for his addictions, anymore than he is for Karen's disease. Imperfect human beings, like all of us. Concentrate on the wonderful music, which Richard was a HUGE part of. His solo albums are wonderful.

Richard is a master arranger, and Karen had an magnificent voice. They also truly loved and respected each other. The rest is history.

Richard loved Karen but he is a VERY controlling man. Both he and his mothers controlling nature caused and or contributed to her demise. Randy Schmidt is a great guy and his book gave Karen a voice she was never able to use in her life

T.I.M.E. great album. Calling Your Name Again. It's a good thing Richard never stopped making music. Never will we stop listening to The Carpenters Music, so perfect and timeless. from Offering to Voice of the Heart, all the albums consist of many many great arrangements carrying Karen's One in a million Voice. Thank you Richard Carpenter and A&M for releasing Lovelines and Karen Carpenter's Solo album as well. To listen to all the albums today is still something very worthwhile and precious.

Richard answers are the way it was- NOT the way Mr. Randy Schmidt portrays him in his Little Girl Blue book. Rich was smart enough tough to know that people like Mr. Schmidt would come along & stir the pot. BELIEVE ME, Richard is the most honorable & humble man you'll ever meet, like he says they were perfectionist . Rich is not a pusher in any way I would like to thank everyone who has written to me who originally bought into Little Girl Blue as they now understand that Rich far from a villian

Richard looks so good here! He doesn't have that pained, anxious look on his face that he sometimes had in the 1983/84 interviews. (I personally think he was still raw from Karen's passing at that time) And what a shame that Gary Collins turned into such a bad drinker. He was a good interviewer! Another shame is that RC's solo album never took off. I have the vinyl here at my house and I love it!!

Although Richard did not originally approve of Karen's solo album, her tragic passing pushed its release by her fans to hear her voice one last time. Her passing also pushed Richard to continue his creative musical talents by going solo, creating his own album with his voice and instrumental piano & performing for the world. He also finally pursued his own personal life by marrying the love of his life, Mary, and raising 5 beautiful & talented Carpenter children. Karen gave her brother new life.
