The BBC, via such folk as John Peel (on Radio 1) and Bob Harris (The Old Grey Whistle Test, BBC2-TV) - not to mention other DJs such as Annie Nightingale and David Jensen, was a great fount of non-commercial music brought to wider public attention. For all the criticism they attract, this is one of their finer moments.

Not anxiety, burn out..They literally made NO money in their first 5 years.Touring and recording + no money = We're done.

Five years of constant touring and recording music with no breaks can do that to some people.

I saw XTC opening for the Talking heads on the Go 2 tour in NYC. I had never heard of them before. All I kept saying to my brother and girlfriend was "who is this band?!?!?" I bought White Music on the way home from the show... :) I even had a band lousy based on that early XTC sound.

Classic. Amazing. Has not aged a day. Love their early years. Was a very lucky chap to see them in a club in Birmingham with about 25 other people it was amazing, unforgettable concert. Thanks for the upload.
