Okay, so I'm gonna choose to interpret the lyrics a little more literally and I'm going to assume that it's about a poor homeless girl long ago. She speaks of her "grandma," who is most likely not actually related to her, because the first stanza is the girl unable to sleep, and so she visits grandma for alcohol to make her sleepy, and asks for her to leave the pulps nearby for if she's hungry (and I'm assuming it's old times because that context seems to fit the story best). In the next stanza, she speaks of "air" that hangs beneath her bed and asks that grandma salts her bed skirt and stays close. She's clearly talking about some kind of spirit (perhaps her parents?) and she sounds kind of scared, leaving me to wonder if perhaps she was referring to a memory of someone or something that hurt her (which I'll get to later)Chorus, she's singing about drowning, but she's also singing about someone using her dead floating body as a bridge to safety. the important thing here is who she wants to walk over her and why she's drowning in he first place. more on that later. Next stanza, the meaning seems p obvious; she's gotten intimate with someone and feels guilty about it. The weird part, though, is her talking about weak legs and asking grandma to keep her powers safe. From this, we can assume that what happened wasn't sex, but rather particularly rough rape (which, if that's the case, probably came from her parents, and may be the bad memory that haunts her dreams) or prostitution (because she also might be an orphan and needs some sort of income, and also because her body would become sore and weak after taking a few "clients").Last stanza, she says that she's been bad and asks grandma if she may see her while she sleeps, which I'm not 100% sure on what exactly she means, but I'm assuming that the girl has spoken/dreamed of a better life, either with better parents or with parents in general, depending on if her parents are dead or simply shitty at their job. This whole stanza, I mostly don't get (thoughts?)Then lastly, chorus again, during which we can assume that she is "drowning" in the life she's living, and that she wants grandma to walk over her (sort of like "you saved my life so I'm gonna protect you even in death" kind of thing, I think) and she wants grandma to remain above her, because a motif seems to be grandma being pure and godly and the girl begging for help at all turns. I think. It's late here, but any thoughts? I also think the song holds a metaphorical meaning beyond this (like the girl and her shitty life and grandma are metaphors for actual things in the singer's life) but I've never put too much thought into it. Lemme know what you guys make of it
