Live, the films are screened simultaneously as laptops are fiddled with, drums are pounded, theremins are wafted at, guitars are bashed and banjos furiously plucked. My maternal Grandparents lived in London. My Grandfather, whose day job was making precision optical instruments, spent his nights in a steel hut on top of a building in Fleet Street, as a Fire-Watcher. My Grandmother spent her nights as an ARP warden in the north of London. The terrible things they must have seen. And in the mornings, they went to work, or the shops, as usual, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. And thousands like them. A great generation. Yes, heroes.11 years ago
