Thanks for posting this song which was top when I was a youngster. There was great speculation at the time over wha the thing was, and I was told it was a secret. And I never found out, and it was infurating. Lovely memories - a happy song.

My dad bought the Phil Harris album and this was my favorite song. I imagine that the "Thing" is a google-eyed monster of some sort, so awful you really can't envision it or stand to look at it for even a few seconds. Not vicious or man-eating, certainly not satanic, just UGLY.
