Ariel Bender was THE best lead guitarist the band ever had....just smokin'. THIS is what real rock(as ini RAWK) leads should sound like w/these songs. Now, he's not particularly tight 'n in the pocket w/ this clip(it's certainly ripping but sloppy) but on a large host of other live recordings, he really did inject new energy into the band. A shame he never got the chance to let it settle more and leave more to enjoy....

Age 15, Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, summer of 1973; what a great concert that was. (REO and Joe Walsh were the warm up bands) They played again in May of '74. Still have my silver platforms.

All The Way From Memphis, was probably my favorite song because I took piano lessons at the time, and I loved the sound of the piano in that song. " The Hoople" was one of my favorite albums because of the awesome Saxophone.

I go for complex guitar leads as much as the next guy, but these biting and simple leads are the hear of rock and roll.Ian and the boys in their pomp. The look, the attitude, and all that rocking.

If Andy Mackay would have shown up to do that great sax solo from the original recording that would have been fabulous! Saw these guys at the Hollywood Palladium in 1972..wish u were there  :)

I loved Mott, fantastic band. Recent documentary on tv said Ariel Bender got legless one evening after a gig in Germany and staggered down the road bending lots of car aerials, hence his nickname................!

my friend Tim Posted this! How cool is that???????? Just wish the sound quality was better. (no fault to Tim...if he was there, he must've been 10 or something) xx Love when Ian kind of shoves Luther Grosvenor (Ariel Bender @ this point) out of the way!

Not about that, but I thought he looked like ace freely of KISS with the way he's dressed.

Maybe it's just me but that dude playing the Les Paul junior is pretty close to sounding a lot like Leslie West. West used a jr. too - in a class of his own:)

Another favorite band that I was lucky enough to meet on this tour, with Queen. Awesome music nothing like this anymore. I didn't notice any dislike backstage between Ian and Ariel/Luther but I did notice him push him out of his way in this video. I was just 13 and I was ready to pack up and follow this band around the world.
