Rising from the ashes of Mott The Hoople came Mott. Nigel Benjamin replaced Ian Hunter on lead vocals. This track was released as a single in 1975 but failed to chart. Mott released two albums, DRIVE ON which this is from and SHOUTING AND POINTING before they would undergo another change of lead vocalist and morph into British Lions. The singer of that group was John Fiddler, previously of Medicine Head.

Lone Star were a brilliant band. Shame they only made two albums.

Great band, great album, I was lucky enough to see them live and they were absolutely awesome - one of the best gigs I have ever seen, and they had a support band called Lone Star who are really worth chevking out too!

As a kid there were several bands that progressed me from glam rock to wot was possibly the genesis of hard rock in my soul, and I can credit this band as one of emone of em. Even today the lead solo still makes my skin rise and wow wot a powerful hard rock voice too. I loved Hoople but there were a helluva lot of bands influenced by these lot who went on to play in heavy metal bands in the early eighties. It was a well produced and very loud sound especially on vinyl and me dad hated it. heh

@rhc101010 I agree and also think that the second British Lions album, "Trouble With Women" was excellent ... in fact I've played that more than the first one.

oh yea ,these records where great back then , l was amazed nobody could see it , the same thing happened to Alice's band when they formed Billion Dollar Babys ,and Bowie's , The Spiders releases , l'm sure it had to do with pissed off record company execs forced to live up to contractual agreements left over from the early line ups ,cause these bands got no press and had no promo machine behind them at the time...

@zettadom Very good point. Mott was nothing like the Hunter fronted Mott the Hoople. It was like a new band really. I like both though. Loved "All American Alien Boy" by the way (@ gorgalwindsor). Thanks everyone for your comments though.

As a big fan of original Mott the Hoople I was disappointed with Drive on and Shouting Pointing. Critics hated them too. Listening to these songs years later on Youtube they sound much better. Still far inferior to classic Mott Hoople but by typical big hair 80's 90's band standards pretty good stuff. Great hooks and offbeat lyrics. As a standalone band without comparison to original Mott (different group basically) they would have had more critical respect.

I remember seeing them do this on a tv popshow introduced by Terry Wogan! Their second lp Shouting And Pointing is a truly fine hard rock album, seriously underrated and one of the best pieces of work in the entire Mott/Hunter catologue. Pisses all over All American Alien Boy for a start!
