This is from Mott's 2nd album; Shouting & Pointing.

The album was released in 1976, but just like the 1st album ' Drive On', it failed to make an impact, I just love the chorus to this song.

Great song and cool album!! Stephen Thomas Erlewine (AllMusic) who marked it negatively is stooopid, indeed.

They got better after Ian Hunter left. I know that will make some people really angry, but I love Ian Hunter just love Nigel more what a range he has! Incredible! Just amazing voice great meaningful song. Beautiful and it shatters your senses at the same time.

Ian Hunter never had the range for this!! This album was so unsuccessful it was actually deleted for a time - for over 35 years I have never, ever understood why. Every track is a gem - magnificent and timeless.

I was given this record when I was a kid. My older sister's boyfriend didn't dig it without the Hoople I guess. I loved it. Still have the original vinyl, barely listenable now with so many drunken scratches added to it! Great to hear it here! Thanks!

This song did not do much for me at the time - hearing it soooo many years later sure changes my mind. Thanks for posting it... It can't be easy to find... Buffin is really on top of his game on this one.

and this song is so much better hearing it now on you tube ,after having to sing it to myself since l lost th record somthing lik 25yrs ago but also ,because it was such a great ,song ,like a prayer , l've remebered it in my head all the time ,so ,it kinda became more poingant ,growing older with me ,like sharing a glass of fine wine ,l can stil savor it with a shared zest ,l can almost say ,its one of the few freinds l've had all these years ,that hasen't let me down...

"When the lights have all gone down, you'll marvel at the speed that thing turn round"a very Hunteruesqe line to say the least, all you people who thought they did't have it no more once they lost"that fuckin Hoople"(only ,kiddin ,beleive me l'm Ians biggest fan),well all l have to say is shame on you, Mott 's short catalogue ,was just as witty ,hip ,and rockin,as anything Mott the Hoople ever recorded,Nigel was his own man but kept pace with the trend Ian Hunters charted, without imitating him.

I remeber listening to this as a young teen and the emotion and power of it gave me this incredible feeling, haven't heard it for probably 30 years....still gives me cold chills when the chorus kicks in.....try to cut you down, take your soul away.......break your heart
