Nastiest, fkin' baddest ass guitar riff intro in rock and funk! Did you guys/gals know this whole tune was ripped though, from Led Zep's Custard Pie tune? the whole tune minus the words is all Zep. but I love MF's take on this. Basically what MF did was take 2 different tunes and make a bombastic tune out of them. Mickey's Monkey is an old tune from Smokey Robinson. Just brilliant the way Mother's Finest took these two tunes and came up with this. Moses Mo is burnin' wood here. Fantastic drumming as well. Love it!

Smartest comment I've seen on Youtube, unfortunately most of the people commenting on who stole what and who did what first miss the whole point of music as art, as a musician I would never call someone elses work mine but we definetly build our styles on the genius of others who came before us and in my case with great reverance....usually don't comment, just had to say, cool post to rebuff "stolen song conspiracy folk"......

This is clearly a case of borrowing from Led Zeppelin, however, as earlier versions of "Mickey's Monkey" do _not_ have the same riffs as this version. Note that I don't have a problem with MF borrowing from Zeppelin, though, just like I don't have a problem with Zeppelin borrowing from all of the sources they borrowed from--I think way too much is made of that, because folks mistakenly think that "originality" is inherently valuable in the arts. I do not agree.

Saw MF in 1977. They were incredible. Blew the roof of the old Capital Centre in D.C. Fantastic band !!
